Yesteryear Collection

Exclusively for members of The Matchbox Collectors Guild.

Among the world's great truck manufacturers, none can match the MACK reputation for toughness and durability. The expression "Built like a MACK truck" defines both the quality of workmanship and the legendary mystique of every MACK product. From humble beginnings in a Brooklyn wagon factory at the turn of the century, the Mack brothers developed a trucking company that would soon be known throughout the world.
Not long after developing their first motorized bus, the Mack Brothers pulled up stakes and moved their growing operation to Allentown, Pennsylvania, which quickly became known as "the truck capital of the world." The designation "Bulldog truck" was bestowed on MACK vehicles by British soldiers who appreciated the performance of these trucks during World War I. Today, MACK is an industry giant with over one billion dollars in an industry giant with over one billion dollars in annual sales and a production capacity of over a quarter million trucks per year. now the famed 1920 MACK AC has been chosen as the very first limited annual edition to be issued exclusively for members of the Matchbox Collectors Guild.

In 1997, Exclusive Collectors Limited Editions brochures accompanied by a publication called the Matchbox Collector were mailed out by Matchbox Collectibles. This model was one of the perks when a membership of £25.00 was taken out to the Matchbox Collectors Guild. It helped them expand and consolidate their mailing list. A copy of the model's blueprint specification sheet and a membership card in the form of a "phone-card" were also additional bonuses.

Apart from having the windscreen frame and cab doors fitted, the model had no body casting changes since its release as the YY030A/SA Mack truck.

The chassis was of interest however as the copyright date and the Matchbox Collectibles legend had been deleted to be replaced with a shallow/cast copyright date of '© 1994' and realligned to accommodate the shorter cast "MATTEL INC" which had been changed and improved on the earlier YPC03. The legend printed model description and series number remained in the same format. There was also no change to the "Made in China".

The livery sported an overall gloss royal blue body with the cab, bonnet and wing areas appearing to have a satin finish.
The van body, depicting an early style of Matchbox packaging, had facing panels masked sprayed in the corporate yellow displaying the company's graphics.
The unpainted dark purple roof panel represented the sticker panel of a Matchbox.

Painted detail on the chassis was restricted to the drive chains.

Production figures are unknown and thus only limited by the number of applicants joining the guild!

The model was issued with a certificate of authenticity exclusively for members of the Matchbox Collector's Guild but was not issued as a Matchbox Exclusive and therefore was only packaged in a plastic former, within the standard yellow and cream Q2 box.

Note: *Some wheel hubs were modified so that the axle hole did not go right through the wheel hub; hence the axle end was not visible in the centre of the wheel. This is Type B.
